About Living Future
We hope you'll join us as an attendee, volunteer, speaker, exhibitor or sponsor.
On behalf of Cascadia and the AIA Seattle Committee
on the Environment, welcome! We are thrilled to invite you to
participate in an exciting dialogue that will bring us all closer to
achieving genuine sustainability in the area of green buildings and
sustainable communities.
The overarching theme of our event is
mitigating climate change and providing a path towards a future of
Living Buildings. As you know, our organizations are committed to
promoting and educating our community on sustainable choices and
practices. Together, we will provide our design community with
inspiration and technical education to help evolve the practice of
sustainable design.
Sincerely, the Cascadia Region Green Building Council Living Future planning & advisory committees - Marni Kahn, Angie Morgan, Peter Dobrovolny, Jason F. McLennan, Gina Franzosa, Jessica Woolliams, Brandon Smith

planning committee
Our talented Living Future committee consists of dedicated, passionate staff and volunteers.
In the true spirit of collaboration, AIA Seattle's Committee on the Environment and Cascadia have come together to bring this event to you. We felt that AIA COTE's annual What Makes it Green? event had a complimentary mission to our own, and that both groups could bring different resources to the table to make an event happen.
Cascadia brings to this event:
-
Technical expertise and experience convening trainings, seminars, eco-charrettes
-
Connections and social capital: extensive network of expert building professionals, thought leaders and an army of over 8,000 individuals throughout the region
-
Dedicated staff and volunteers: our staff are dedicated to cutting-edge learning opportunities, create levers for change, and promoting strategic collaborations and alignments with our partners.

Carbon neutral wood products
We are working on making our FSC certified CollinsWood lumber carbon neutral. We are mapping all of our carbon flows from the forest to the market place, and everywhere in between. Our hopes are that we can show we are carbon neutral, or negative, which we would have independently verified, in our lumber operations. The end goal is to be able to offer the market place a truely carbon neutral, or restorative, building product. That would go a long way in helping as the built environment tries to rein in their carbon emissions. We hope to roll this out first, but make it so the rest of the FSC community could also use the template as well. We are early in the process, so there are no guarantees we can do it, but we can sure try.
