Vibrant, mixed-used, mixed-income, transit villages at new transit stations will be key to the region's long term sustainability -- economically, socially and environmentally. During this program, Dan Rosenfeld, Founding Principal of Urban Partners, will share the successes and challenges of transit-oriented development, and the role of TOD in achieving equitable development in the Puget Sound region. Shelley Poticha, President of Reconnecting America, will moderate the program and will highlight the importance of housing development at TOD stations in leveraging the region's transit investment.
The construction of new transit in the Puget Sound region offers tremendous opportunity to stimulate economic activity, increase the supply of housing close in, and reduce the region's carbon footprint. Making the most of the public investment in transit, however, requires advance planning and a coordinated approach among transit, housing, and public works departments--as well as the private sector. This approach will include mixed-income housing, so that residents of all income levels have access to clean and affordable public transportation -- creating diverse, livable, and sustainable communities that will ensure our region's future success.
