Embodied Energy
This presentation will provide an overview of the tools that architects
and engineers can use to evaluate the life cycle environmental
footprints of a building and its components. These tools include Carbon
Accounting, Environmental Life Cycle Assessment, Ecological Footprint
and others. Focus will be on the approaches and available tools that
are most efficiently incorporated into the daily practice of architects
and engineers, and will help answer clients increasing desire to
minimize all environmental impacts on a life cycle-wide basis,
especially greenhouse gases.
Our presenter this month is Peter Reppe. Before “re-starting” his
career as an energy analyst and sustainability specialist at SOLARC in
2004, Peter acquired in-depth experience with Life Cycle Assessment as
Research Associate at the University of Michigan. His current work
spans a wide range of green building aspects, including energy
analysis, LEED planning and administration, energy efficiency design
support for architects and engineers, environmental impact evaluation
of materials, and support in materials selection to architects.
