Cost:  $ 200/person paid in advance to reserve seats
Where:  Downtown Victoria, BC, Venue to be announced

Topics :
  • Applying the Green Shores Coastal Development Rating System -
Stage One: Shoreline Assessment required to meet the credits for (A) Coastal Engineering and Coastal Process Requirements, (B) Coastal Riparian Conservation and Restoration

Description:
Ø   This is a practical "how-to" workshop about achieving the Green Shores rating credits for ocean front construction and shore protection projects.

Ø   The workshop group will go through the assessment process needed to assess the site and shape the development design.

Ø   The first session, led by John Harper (geomorphologist with Coastal and Ocean Sciences Inc. and John Readshaw, (coastal engineer with Sandwell Engineering Ltd.), will cover the assessment of key physical processes  (shore type, exposure, wave climate, tidal range, rates of accretion or erosion) required for both the sitting and coastal process credits.

Ø   The second session, led by Jim Brennan, landscape architect with J.A. Brennan Associates, will address the conservation and restoration of marine riparian features and functions.

Ø   In the afternoon, there will also be an opportunity for participants to make 15-20 minute presentations about projects that could fit the Green Shores model or for which a Green Shores approach is desired but there are some implementation issues.  If you would like to present a project please contact me; five projects will be selected to represent a diversity of shore types, exposures, land use and scales. Both built projects and those in the conceptual design phase are suitable for presentation.  We are hoping that a number of these projects could later be used as pilot Green Shores rating projects.

Ø   The workshop will accommodate participation by 40 development and planning practitioners (engineers, geomorphologists, landscape architects, planners, habitat biologists, developers, regulators and contractors).

Ø  Please contact Patrick at 1-250-954-0110 or patrick@greenshores.ca  and mail your cheque to reserve your spot.

Cost and Registration: $ 200, includes lunch. Cheques can be made out to the Stewardship Center for BC with Green Shores Workshop on the memo line.  Mail to Green Shores, Patrick Walshe, Box 445, Errington, BC, V0R 1V0.  Please email me with all your contact information as well as your affiliations and titles you wish to have on your nametag.  I will send out the agenda, details and documents one week prior to the workshop to those who have paid. Please notify me of any food allergies and preferences.  Thanks!
