A Living Building provides a civilized indoor environment, addressing proper access to natural light and connection to the outdoors. Learn to identify building design strategies that provide appropriate levels of ventilation, while employing measures that reduce occupant exposures to toxins and irritants.

It is difficult to ensure that indoor environments will remain healthy, vibrant places for people--especially over time, as aspects such as indoor air quality, thermal control and visual comfort can easily be compromised in numerous ways. The presence of specific features do not necessarily ensure a great indoor environment due to the vagaries of operation and maintenance regimes on a building.

Sessions in the Indoor Environmental Quality Petal are intended to inform professionals of both the issues surrounding human health and well being, and the design and construction strategies that increase the likelihood a building will remain healthy over time. Learn the fundamentals of human toxicology and employ this knowledge as a filter for design and construction decisions. Additionally, discover th impact of the indoor environment on human health, and identify the methodologies and benefits of post-occupancy surveys.
