Living Future Building Tour

Vancouver Convention & Exhibition Center
Enjoy a walking tour of the Vancouver Convention & Exhibition Centre (VCEC) west expansion facility, which is currently under construction on the last undeveloped section of Vancouver's downtown waterfront (about six blocks from the Westin Bayshore conference site). Designed by LMN Architects in collaboration with Musson Cattell Mackey Partnership and Downs/Archambault & Partners, the VCEC's integrative design brings together the complex ecology, vibrant local culture, and urban downtown, accentuating their interrelationships through the building's architecture. Targeting LEED® Gold certification, the VCEC includes a number of “living future” features, including a massive, 5.5-acre living roof (one of the biggest in Canada); an intricate water conservation and reuse strategy with black water treatment and desalinization systems; and restored shoreline with concrete reef for underwater habitat. The session will begin with a brief overview at the Westin then we will walk around the perimeter of the construction site to see the distinctive architecture and sustainability elements, including the living roof that is primed for planting and new marine "habitat skirt".
