Morning Yoga and Meditation

Instructor:

Alex Hutton, Yoga instructor and Green Building Specialist, Stantec Consulting

Our busy lifestyles mean we spend most of our time rushing around “doing” things and allow very little time to just “be”.  Alex invites you to do something good for yourself by starting your day off with a relaxing and energizing Kundalini Yoga class.

What is Kundalini Yoga?
The word Yoga comes from a Sanskrit word that means “to yoke” or “to unite.”  It is a means to unite body, mind, and spirit.  Kundalini Yoga is a powerful yogic tradition that is thousands of years old, and which combines Asana (postures), Pranayam (breathing), Mantra (sound), and meditation to give us a greater awareness of self.

Class Structure
Each Kundalini Yoga class has the following structure:

  • Tuning in mantra
  • Warm-up exercises and/or pranayam (optional)
  • Kriya (set of exercises design to produce a specific state)
  • Deep relaxation
  • Meditation
  • Closing song

What do bring
Wear comfortable unrestrictive clothing
Make sure you have water to rehydrate with
A white head covering made of natural fibers is recommended
A blanket, sweater, or shawl to keep you warm during the deep relaxation

The class will be appropriate for beginners and can be tailored for any level of physical mobility.
