Upon achieving my LEED AP nearly 3 1/2 years ago, I have focused my business and personal efforts on the huge trend of sustainable building development. My firm, Paragon Modular Interiors is the Alaska Distribution Partner for DIRTT-Doing It Right This Time, which manufactures floor to ceiling modular walls and raised access floor systems. DIRTT is the only manufacture who uses all water base paints, lacquers, stains, adhesives, etc. and promotes "REUSE". And, DIRTT products can earn a LEED point! I am the registered designer on the Cold Climate Housing Research Center which is awaiting their LEED Certification. I'm also currently teaching a class at our University titled "Sustainability in the Built Environment" I am a member of the "Sustainable Building Initiate Task Force" which has been working together over the previous 1 1/2 years on an ordinance mandating all new and renovated public buildings to acquire LEED Silver Certification. We hope to have this passed in June, 2008. I am past president of the USGBC Alaska Chapter and currently Chair of our Alaska Branch, Cascadia Region Green Building Council Steering Committee. I am considered one of the primary resources in Alaska for folks seeking information regarding sustainable development which I believe supports my passion and commitment.
I have been an active member of USGBC in Alaska for approximately 4 years. During this time I have been partially responsible for bringing guest speakers and workshops to Alaska pertaining to sustainable building development. I attended the Living Building Challenge in spring of 2007 as well as the PRC annual meeting. Most recently, I attended a reception honoring Cascadia's 100 Friends which was hosted in Seattle by Cascadia.
I am a 2nd generation Alaskan and have witnessed the growth of population, residential and commercial construction, etc. and a lot of other changes over my lifetime. I have provided design services throughout various locations within the State of Alaska for more than 24 years and therefore have a great deal of knowledge as to how important sustainable development is for Alaska and Alaskans.
I feel that I will represent Alaska very well given my involvement in the community regarding sustainability issues. I'm very excited to share information and collaborate with a team of people all sharing the same passion and goal.
