A principal with Green Building Services, I bring 15 years of green building and design expertise to a wide variety of clients. I am able to deliver high level green building strategies and forge effective working relationships among members of national and international project teams. I have a proven record of achieving clarity around green building objectives which has enabled our clients to implement the most meaningful and valuable solutions for their project. My strengths are in conducting project assessments during the conceptual and design phases, working in close collaboration with building owners, architects, designers and engineers to articulate the green building goals and develop a clear plan of action. My creative vision, coupled with my attention to a project’s particular budget and schedule, provides project teams with the guidance and confidence necessary for making smart green design decisions.

A nationally recognized facilitator, I have lead over a hundred trainings, eco-charrettes and workshops on sustainability and green building strategies. As a member of the USGBC’s LEED faculty, I also deliver workshops on the LEED Green Building Rating System. My workshops are tailored to address the specific needs of owners, design firms, contractors, government agencies and facility managers. I have been a featured speaker at national and international conferences, including GreenBuild, EnvironDesign, Historic Preservation Conferences, and PCBC. I have also been commissioned by national product manufacturers to conduct workshops and consult on sustainable materials and their applications, and marketing strategies. My project focus includes historic renovations, higher education facilities, libraries as well as international green building consulting.

I have served as a director on three boards in the past several years. I was board president of the Sustainable Products Purchasers Coalition (now merged with the Responsible Purchasing Network). Currently, I hold a position on the board of Green Building Services, Inc. and the Cascadia Region Green Building Council.

I am passionate about green building and the role that the Pacific NW plays in defining and driving the green building movement forward. For the past decade, I have worked in the green building industry and been directly involved with some of the most successful green building projects in the region. I believe that fostering the right mindset among owners, developers and design and construction industry professionals is more essential to success than the mere inclusion of innovative products or equipment. I also have held a position as a USGBC faculty member for the past six years. In this capacity, I’ve had the opportunity to educate and motivate practitioners to integrate sustainable principles into their daily work and to advocate for green building. Through my green building consulting role on numerous LEED-certified projects, I have had the honor of working with outstanding building industry professionals to advance the development green building projects. I bring a comprehensive understanding of the building industry and state-of-the-art green building in Cascadia. This insight and understanding gives me the background to work with my fellow Cascadia Board members to keep the organization on the leading edge, providing innovative programs and assistance to the building industry that we support.

I would like to continue my work as a member of the Cascadia Board of Directors because I strongly believe in the mission and vision of the organization. While we have accomplished so many great things already, I believe that we are poised to take our membership and the industry in an entirely new direction in the coming years. Clearly, we are at a critical juncture in our existence on the planet. We have to move beyond questions about our role in environmental issues and focus on new and creative solutions to the problems. As the leading chapter (and the first international chapter) of USGBC, Cascadia has gained a reputation an innovator. We have developed pioneering programs, tools and conferences that foster a new level of enthusiasm and drive for practitioners and policy makers. We’ve challenged the industry to move beyond the current thinking about green building. I believe Cascadia has a key role to play in choreographing a transition from conventional thinking and solutions - that center on building planning, design, construction, operations and maintenance - to envisioning fully sustainable Living Communities. The Board of Directors can lead this charge by working hand-in-hand with our staff and membership and by building on our strength, diversity and reach. I welcome the opportunity to continue this effort.
