2007 Cascadia Fellows Lifetime Achievement Award


 

Lynne Barker, Sustainable Communities Planner, City of Seattle Department of Planning and Development
Lynne is responsible for encouraging green building and green neighborhood development in Seattle. She focuses on raising awareness of these issues, identifying and resolving code barriers, and creating innovative public policies. Lynne considers Seattle’s elected officials, City staff members and herself as Policy Entrepreneurs – developing innovative policies and initiatives that support Seattle’s move toward a more sustainable future. She created her first job in sustainable building with Sellen Construction Company by developing and implementing Sellen’s Sustainable Building Program. Lynne co-chaired the LEED™ Committee of the US Green Building Council, served two terms on the board of the US Green Building Council, and was a co-founder and founding board member of the Cascadia Region Green Building Council. Barker was a recipient of the 2007 Cascadia Fellows Lifetime Achievement Award. More recently, Barker formed a consortium of public agencies, non-profit organizations and utilities to develop the “Playbook for Green Buildings + Neighborhoods,” a web-based tool to support local governments in meeting climate action goals by advancing green buildings and neighborhoods.

Rob Bennett, Clinton Climate Initiative
Rob recently joined the Clinton Climate Initiative, a program of partnering with the world’s largest cities to reduce CO2 and other emissions through the implementation of best practices, including smart growth, green buildings, and green infrastructure; technology transfer through the bulk purchasing of energy efficient equipment; and development of consistent and universal emissions reporting. Rob previously worked for the cities of Portland and Vancouver, BC for 8 years developing and implementing sustainable development initiatives. The work focused on enhancing the cities’ commitment to sustainable development principles, practices, and technologies. In Vancouver, Rob led the City’s comprehensive Green Building Strategy and facilitated green building and infrastructure activities for the 2010 Olympic Village. In Portland, Rob founded the City’s Green Building program, G/Rated.

Logan Cravens, Director of Green Building Resources, SERA Architects
Logan has over 18 years experience in architecture and education with a special emphasis in environmental design issues. In addition to project management on Federal Courts projects, Logan advises SERA in the implementation of sustainable policies and procedures. Since 1992, Logan has been a recognized leader in Portland’s sustainable design community. He is a past chair of the AIA/ Portland Chapter Committee on the Environment. A founding board member and past president of the Cascadia Region Green Building Council, Logan is also a LEED™ Accredited Professional and SERA’s representative to the U.S. Green Building Council. He is a contributor to the Oregon Natural Step Network Construction Industries Task Force and numerous construction trade publications. Since 1997, Logan has taught a course on the theory and practice sustainable architecture in the Department of Architecture at Portland State University.

Kevin Hydes, Vice President of Buildings Engineering, Stantec
Kevin is the Chair Elect of the World Green Building Council. He served as the Chair of the USGBC for 2005- 2006, and co-founder of the Cascadia Region Green Building Council and Canada Green Building Council. He is Vice President of Buildings Engineering and the Sector Leader of Sustainable Design at consulting engineers Stantec, and the former President and CEO of Keen Engineering. Hailing from Leeds in the UK, Kevin is a natural leader and a community icon in the field of sustainability. He has focused on green design and advancing its cause for the past 15 years. He is an Honorary Member of the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada and the Architectural Institute of BC, an Adjunct Professor at McGill University School of Architecture, and the Liaison Officer for the Association of Consulting Engineers of Canada and the CaGBC.

Jeff Wartelle
Jeff was a Signatory to the Articles of Incorporation, a Founding Officer and the Registered Agent for the Cascadia Region Green Building Council from its 1999 inception through 2005. As Director of Strategic Initiatives and Partnerships for the Certified Forest Products Council, Jeff was an early participant in the emerging USGBC and drafted the proposal that was to become LEED Credit MR7 for Certified Wood. Prior that, he was a Founding Director of the Forest Products Buyer’s Group, a non-profit created to introduce independent forest certification in the North American marketplace. Jeff was raised in Seattle when a trip to Redmond still meant a ride in the country and he continues to envisage a renaissance of the electric rails of his parents’ era. He currently splits his residency between Portland, Oregon and Adelaide, South Australia.
