Mayor Greg Nickels and International Sustainable Solutions present Svend
Auken, former Danish Cabinet Minister for Energy and the Environment. During
the oil crisis of the 1970s, Denmark was dependent on foreign oil for 98% of
its energy needs. Today, this small country, with a population the size of
WA, is a net exporter of energy and the largest exporter worldwide of
renewable energy technologies. As a member of parliament for 30 years, Svend
Auken was one of the leading architects of Denmark's remarkable transition.
