My interest in green building goes back to my childhood roots in New England where we had an old saying that went “Use it up, wear it out, make it do, or do without.”. I have been an adamant recycler all of my life. This was best demonstrated one day years back when we over slept and the phone rang and it was the local waste management company. The lady on the phone said that she was calling because the recycle truck was outside our house and they had noticed that we had forgotten to put out our recycle material. I was truly surprised that they noticed our diligence and then told them that we really didn’t have any recycles because we had been on vacation for the last week. With that said, I truly believe as stated in the “Built it LEED Toolkit” that a LEED project requires a team approach and that every team needs a LEED Champion. I am the LEED Champion on my projects. I have also taken my knowledge and experience with LEED projects and helped educate local contractors and suppliers through seminars and one on one discussions.

I joined Cascadia GBC in the Fall of 2006. I am currently on the Spokane Branch Steering Committee. I am also enrolled in the NaSBA Program.

I hope to be a representative voice for Eastern Washington and other regions outside of the “I-5 Beltway”. I have lived and worked construction in Eastern Washington for over 30 years and have numerous contacts within the construction industry. I would utilize and expand my contacts to communicate Cascadia’s Principles and Mission to our local construction community while bringing to the Board issues, concerns and desires of this area. As a competitive fixed bid contractor I know first hand what it is to set a budget and to bring the project in under budget. I realize and believe that “The Cascadia Principles” go far beyond money, but without a sustainable economic framework the “Principles “will not get implemented.

I want to be an active participant in the green movement. I strongly believe in Cascadia’s principles and mission and would like to help bring them to our local – regional communities. Sustainability has matured to encompass all aspects of our society and Cascadia is in the forefront of this important and necessary movement.
